- FMSDIR V1.0
- ------------------
-
- FMSDIR is a quick and simple program to help you make sure that a file listed
- in you master.dir file is actually on your hard drive(s) for downloading. In
- this first version of FMSDIR, an parameter file is read giving FMSDIR the
- location and name of your master directory file and the number and name of the
- download subdirectories. Any files that are found to be missing from your
- hard drive(s) are written to a seperate file that can be reviewed after the
- program is done. After a missing file is indicated on the screen, a press of
- any key is required for the program to resume operation. As a file is
- searched for, its name is displayed on the screen and the current subdirectory
- being searched with the current status of the search indicated.
-
- CONFIGURATION
- -------------
-
- For the program to work, it has to check a file names FMSDIR.PRM. This text
- file contains the basic information for the program to work. This file can
- be prepared with any simple word processor or by using the DOS command "COPY
- CON FMSDIR.PRM". For further information on this, consult the DOS manual.
- The layout of this file is as follows -
-
- d:\rbbs\master.dir - Drive,subdirectory & name of master directory file
- 3 - number of subdirectories
- d:\newuser - name of download subdirectory
- d:\club - " " " " " "
- e:\club - " " " " " "
-
- It cannot be stressed enough that the file must be layed out as presented for
- the program to work properly. If you use a word processor to write the
- FMSDIR.PRM file, it must put a carriage return/line feed combination at the
- end of the line. I use PC-WRITE on my board but any similar program would
- work as well. You will need to customize the PRM file before the program will
- work on your system !!
-
- Important to mention is that FMSDIR.EXE is expecting to find a master.dir file
- configured per that suggested in an article written by Loren Jones of RBBS
- Chicago (43 columns comment area). A copy of that is included in this ARC.
-
- OPERATION
- ---------
-
- To run the program, just type FMSDIR at the DOS prompt. By the nature of its
- design, it does not have to be located on the same drive and subdirectory as
- RBBS. As the file "Missing.fil" is written with the names and categories for
- any missing files that are found, the record number of that entry in the
- MASTER.DIR file is also recorded. This is to help you in later finding that
- entry and deleting it if you cannot find a copy of that program.
-
- The display is only setup to handle 9,999 files. If you have more than that,
- please let me know and I will make the appropriate changes for you.
-
- FUTURE ENHANCEMENTS
- -------------------
-
- Color could be added and possibly sound effects to enhance the programs
- appearance. The option to allow the program to run without stopping on a
- missing file entry would allow those sysops desiring it to have the program to
- run as part of a batch file as part of a weekly maintanence procedure.
- Probably the best enhancement would be to have the configuration option built
- in to the program. Your comments on this would be appreciated. Please drop
- me a note on CIS if you are using this program and your comments. As I start
- releasing other programs, I would like to have an idea of what kind of user
- base that I have and be more responsive to changes that are requested. My CIS
- id is 73605,612 or I can be reached on my BBS called Bluegrass RBBS (606-272-
- 0499).
-
